Job Title:         Accounting Manager, Rawlings Sporting Goods

Department:   Accounting/Finance

Reports to:      Assistant Controller

Supervises:      Accounting Staff

FLSA Status:  Exempt

 General Overview:  The Accounting Manager will be responsible for supervising accounting staff, reviewing /approving journal entries and account reconciliations, ensuring proper internal controls, implementing process improvements, coordinating audits, and preparing/reviewing audit and tax schedules.

 General Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensures proper controls and procedures are in place and that GAAP are being followed to ensure the safeguarding of company assets and the mitigation of risk.
  • Supervises general accounting functions and provides leadership in driving improvements in process and performance in these areas.
  • Develops audit ready status in all areas of responsibility and provides liaison activities for external and internal audits.
  • Prepares and reviews PBC audit and tax schedules.
  • Maintains control over financial systems and reporting to ensure integrity of all data flowing out of the finance/accounting department. Ensures accurate and timely reporting.
  • Streamlines/automates, where possible, to drive to more timely dissemination of information to organization decision-makers.
  • Supervises various journal entries, account reconciliations, and closing activity during the month-end process.
  • Assists in all other areas of accounting and finance, as needed.

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting; CPA/MBA preferred
  • Five to ten years of professional experience with financial analysis/accounting
  • Prior managerial experience and working on cross-functional teams
  • High degree of proficiency in Excel models, pivot tables and macros
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work cross-functionally on a variety of projects
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Experience with ERP systems, with strong preference for JD Edwards
  • Experience with "data mining" programs (Cognos, Showcase or similar) preferred
  • Hyperion/HFM experience preferred


 Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

 Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to forecast numbers.   Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.  Superior mathematical and statistical aptitude. 

 Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
